The Gospel of my salvation

I grew up in a Baptist church, but never knew for sure if I was saved.  I was taught that the way of salvation was to ask Jesus into your heart, turn from your sin, make him lord of your life, confess your sin, live a good life, and do many other things.  These are all works that you do.  I never had assurance that I was heaven-bound, because I didn't live up to all of that.  The Lord opened my eyes several years ago, showing me that at the cross, all of my sins were forgiven, past, present, and future, as well as those of the whole world.  I can do nothing in the flesh to add or subtract from His finished work. If you believe that Christ was offered on your behalf for all of your sins, He died, He was buried, and He rose again, that is the gospel, the good news.  You cannot do anything except believe that He did it all.  I now know that I have eternal life because God said so.  I finally have peace that passes all understanding.
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
The wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:23
But God commended his loved toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!  Romans 5:8
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.  Ephesians 1:13-14
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened (made alive) together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances (the Law) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross. Collosians 2:13-14

The price was paid at the Cross, all sins, past, present and future, paid for by the blood of Christ.  We only need to trust in that promise.  No other works required from us.  Just believe and trust that the price has already been paid.  Your good works come after you are saved, because you want to serve Him, but  they have nothing to do with your salvation, because your sins have already been forgiven, and your belief in His finished work is what seals the deal.
